The UPPA 2016 award winner-Creative Category is; Oscar Ntege. This year’s 5th Edition was open to all Ugandan photo journalists.

The 5th Edition of the Uganda Press Photo Award annual photo contest was open to all Ugandan photo journalists and photographers 18 years and above to participate by submitting their best images.

The UPPA 2016 awards opened for submissions on 04th July, 2016.

Oscar Ntenge The UPPA 2016 award winner, could not hide his excitement as he posted on his Instagram account thanking everyone who contributed to his success.

“I was awarded 1st place in the creative category at the 2016 Uganda Press Photo Award yesterday. I want to take this opportunity to thank the organisers, the model Amanda Angel Kimari, the makeup artist Fayth Presh and the entire team that was behind me at the crafting of this piece.” Says Ocar Ntege.

The awards ceremony took place in October at the Makerere art gallery and was organized by the Foreign Correspondents’ Association of Uganda (FCAU) together with the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung.

This year’s Judges included; South African photo journalist Neo Ntsoma, Carl De Souza AFP’s chief photographer for East Africa, Katrin Peters-Klaphake a curator with extensive experience in photography and photojournalism, Nairobi based Nigerian photojournalist Jide Adeniyi-Jones, FCAU member and renowned photo journalist Frédérick Noy and Makerere University’s lecturer in photography Annette Seba.

The awards aims to inspire, educate, promote and support visual journalism in Uganda and in doing so, raising the bar for professional photojournalism in Uganda. In addition, it aims to make photography more visible to the wider Ugandan public.

In 2012 the competition was held for the first time and every year it attracts bigger numbers of entries from Ugandan photographers across and outside of the country.
